My Approach

Sidequest wanted the logo and branding to take inspiration from retro video games, but with a clean, modern twist. After multiple variations, we settled on a bold, dark, techy look, that has splashes of retro. This style makes it really stand out and it’s easy to recognize. I created different versions of the logo to work in full format or as an icon. The full brand development will be released as the Sidequest learning platform evolves. I’m excited to see this fully come to life one day!

LOGO CONCEPT TO REFINEMENT

Below, I’ve included the beginnings of the logo design process. These are four rough concepts that were presented. I wanted to focus on some keywords and concepts that were important for this brand, such as: personal growth, technology, retro gaming, adventure, and imagery around the word “side”. In this process, the fourth logo is the one that the clients wanted to pursue and further develop.

After choosing the logo direction, and doing some refining, we could also finalize the colour palette and other details of the brand’s visual identity. See the updated style board/mood board below.

Next, see how the overall visual branding came together below. The dark colour palette makes it easy on the eyes for night screen viewing and it gives retro, yet modern game vibes.
