Chatterbox

When kid-friendly services reach out to me for help with branding and web design, I’m always so excited. It’s so much fun to create a vibrant and friendly brand identity. Nicole approached me to create a new speech and language therapy logo and website for her clinic, Chatterbox Communication.

Nicole and her staff provide very specialized speech and language support, and her services are so valuable for many families in London, Ontario. We explored many directions for a branding re-vamp, to improve her overall image and create a vibe that is modern, friendly, and approachable. She wanted the new branding to express her approach of collaboration, fun, and family-focus.

My Approach

I created a logo mascot that was welcoming, fun, and created a sense of play. When considering different characters for the logo, I settled on a prairie dog which has one of the most sophisticated communication systems of all animals. It is said to be even better than dolphins or chimps. They use many types of communication including verbal chatter and physical movements. They work as a team to send messages throughout a colony.

Everything about these cute little creatures lined up with the fun, approachable vibe we were looking for. The way they work as a team represented the collaborative approach that Chatterbox takes when working with families and schools. It was the perfect opportunity to integrate some fun character illustrations. This little guy will act as a bit of a mascot for the brand, and the possibilities are endless with how the character could be integrated into sessions with children, and throughout the clinic.

I used a fun type with playful, round edges and the palette is colourful, but not too vibrant. It was important for the colours to be calm and approachable, to not be overwhelming for children who may have sensory issues.

WEB DESIGN & MARKETING

In addition, I designed a fun website and social media graphics that matched this tone. The website’s imagery features happy kids and the same friendly colour palette, fun custom icons, and simple shapes throughout. Below is a preview of the website design which integrates the benefits of speech therapy and the unique approaches that Chatterbox uses.

Throughout the website, I designed custom-illustrated icons that add to the fun, friendly look. These icons compliment the prairie dog logo and really bring the whole website together. Below are also some responsive versions of the site. The placement and sizing of the text and photos adjust for different screen sizes on phones and tablets. This helps with usability and will keep mobile users on the site. It also helps keep text and photos easily legible in small format.

Next, I’ve featured some social media graphics and other uses of the brand imagery for marketing. Using branded imagery will help Chatterbox be easily recognized online across all platforms, and help clients get a feel for the values of the business.

It’s exciting to see this new brand identity come to life. See a video preview of the home page below, or view the full website here. It was a great experience to work with Nicole and see how passionate she is about her work. To see this project through from brand strategy, to logo concepts, to full branding and website was such a joy.
