I’m happy to share the visual branding and web design I developed for Kayla Ruano Gowdy, a Social Worker providing therapy services for adults and couples in London, Ontario.

Kayla plays a pivotal role in guiding clients through a deeper understanding of the patterns and influences that shape their lives, empowering them to make positive changes. With expertise in adult ADHD, neurodivergence, depression, anxiety, and trauma, Kayla helps clients reinvent their lives with tailored, compassionate therapy and counselling.

The Challenge

Kayla tasked me with designing a therapy website that embodies a gentle, calm approach to therapy. The primary goal of the website launch was to provide clients with easy access to information and a seamless way to reach out, while also serving as a professional representation of Kayla for others in her field. Also, she wanted her website to communicate the idea of a labyrinth, symbolizing the journey she guides her clients through various therapeutic approaches. Explore the web design below for Kayla, who provides in-person therapy in London, Ontario and virtual services Ontario-wide.

MY APPROACH

I designed a space that feels welcoming, friendly, and fosters a sense of trust and calm. Since Kayla didn’t have any pre-existing branding, I did also establish brand colours, style, and identity. A logo was not designed at this time, but I did select typography that created a cohesive look. In creating the color palette and visuals, I aimed to create a natural and approachable brand image. Soft, earthy tones and textures resembling watercolor were chosen to evoke a sense of peace. The typography features rounded serifs, enhancing the overall welcoming vibe.

While we didn’t tackle logo design, the development of the website itself effectively established a cohesive brand identity that conveys approachability, trustworthiness, and professionalism.

The labyrinth concept is integrated into custom-illustrated icons and backgrounds, where I decided to put the labyrinth symbol in the shape of a brain. The labrynth/brain embodies complexity and the intricate nature of the mind. I meant for this to represent a person’s mental state, particularly when they are facing challenges in navigating their thoughts and emotions. The labyrinth metaphor suggests that the mind is a complex, winding path with many twists and turns, representing struggles. This is where Kayla comes in to partner with her clients on their journey to self-discovery. Due to the struggles clients may face, it was important to convey welcoming vibes for potential therapy clients.

Next is an example of a responsive layout. This shows how the website previews differently on tablet or smaller formats. An alternative layout on tablet and mobile helps with usability, making the website clean and simple to use.

Approachable, professional Social Worker Web Design

The creation of this website has helped establish a cohesive, inviting identity that reflects trust and approachability. It will enhance Kayla’s online presence, making it easier for potential clients to explore her therapy services and unique approaches.
