Sidequest is a game development team that creates online educational courses, aiming to build a community of developers who want to apply their skills to create games. They came to me needing a logo and basic branding to establish their visual identity for social media and online presence. I designed a flexible logo system and visual direction that brings their playful, tech-forward personality to life.

My Approach
The Challenge
Sidequest wanted a brand that drew inspiration from retro video games, but with a clean, modern twist that would stand out and feel recognizable. The logo needed to work both as a full-format version and as a compact icon, adaptable for social media and future branding needs. To kickstart their platform, I built a bold, techy logo and brand identity that’s instantly recognizable and captures their adventurous, community-driven spirit.
Logo Concept to Refinement
I began by exploring concepts around personal growth, technology, adventure, and the playful idea of “side” in Sidequest. I developed several logo directions to test these themes, combining retro gaming cues with modern, tech-forward aesthetics.
Through iterations and client feedback, I refined the design into a bold, dark, techy logo with subtle retro touches. This makes the brand eye-catching and flexible for both digital and print applications.
The process started with four rough concepts, each emphasizing different aspects of the brand’s personality. After reviewing these options with the client, we selected the fourth concept to move forward with. From there, I refined the logo, finalized the color palette, and developed supporting visual identity elements.
The dark color scheme is optimized for screen-friendly, nighttime viewing while giving a retro-modern gaming vibe. Additional brand assets, including initial social media graphics and business cards are below.
